The Valkyrie rode glorious supernatural horses over the battlefields at the end of combat. They chose those warriors whose hearts were true and who had fought with unwavering bravery to take to Valhalla to live in service to Odin. I painted this at the time of my uncle’s death; he was an outstanding man and would undoubtedly been chosen to ride with the Valkyrie.
