These paintings are inspired by Roman bronze sculptures of war horses. War horses they may be, but I have given them gentle characters…it seems to me that they are in the middle of conversation; war a thing not even at the edge of their thoughts. How quickly tides may change, as in life, the soldier is a friend and also the fierce taker of life.
